Print: Baxter print CL 245 - Known as The Small Crucifixion as there is an identical print by Baxter but obviously larger. This is printed by the Baxterotype process which was introduced by Baxter to counter the then newly discovered photography or Daguerreotype. Printed from a steel plate and two zinc sepia colour blocks, engraved to give great ‘depth’ to the print. Baxterotypes can be quite hard to find, Baxter only published a few and most were unsigned so many of these works would have gone unrecognised and most probably lost over the years. This print is signed ‘G Baxter’ bottom left.
