1434 The Morning Call – Stamped Mount
Print: Baxter - CL 360 - Courtney Lewis writes “The sweep has called one snowy morning, and by the marks he has left round the knocker, and the energy with which he is pulling the bell, is carrying out the instructions on the door to "knock and ring" with vigour and to the letter; and from the appearance of his mouth there is little doubt but what his "morning call" will be duly heard if not appreciated.
The house at which this early caller is visiting is No. 11, and there is a brass plate on the door bearing the words "G. Baxter, Offices No. 12"; and this is generally thought represents Baxter's premises in Northampton Square, but we believe this is not so.“. This last comment would have been written in 1924 and I can’t understand why he would have thought that. If you look at an image on our website that can be seen in our Baxter addresses page https://www.georgebaxter.com/george-baxter-s-addresses you can see images of 11/12 Northampton Square as it was in the 1940/50’s and to me they seem as good as the print even though taken some 100 years later
