Print: Baxter CL 146 - One of Baxter plates in the rare pocket book ‘Suttaby's Le Souvenir, 1848’ as well as being sold by Baxter, He never issued this on any form of a mount but did issue this mounted in a gold and velvet frame which sold at 10s. 6d. each.
It is usually called the "The small 'Bride.'" It was only issued for a short period before the plate was enlarged and then known as ‘The Bride’ and used extensively on music sheets. The later version was also printed by Le Blond from Baxter’s plates. The later version is so often wrongly described as a portrait of Queen Victoria,
It is definitely in ‘the style of the day’ but was actually taken from
a painting by Fanny Corbaux.
On Baxter‘s steel plate, engraved under the print, is the title, and "Printed in Oil Colours by George Baxter, Patentee, 11, Northampton Square, from a Painting by Miss F. Corbaux,"
Mr. Sydney Wright, who was in Baxter's employ and afterwards was Le Blond's manager for many years, writing to the Bazaar in November, 1897, says he had a share in printing it, and he believes only about 250 copies were struck
