Print: Le Blond Baxter 163. Originally issued by Baxter as CL 193 in 1854. It shows the Crystal Palace, the Great Exhibition Building after it was removed to Sydenham. It show its fountains and in the foreground the famous ‘concrete dinosaurs’ of Mr. Waterhouse Hawkins set up in 1854 and still there today. Baxter also called this print Baxter’s Gems of the Crystal Palace No 3. The Exterior and Gardens from the Railway.
The lack of Baxter’s printed signature bottom centre and colouration of the sky confirms this is a Le Blond printing from the Baxter plate.
On the lower right hand side, and hardly noticeably, is a rubber stamp stating Published by G Baxter… this is a stamp applied to many Le Bond prints in the 1920’s trying to pass them off as a Baxter.
