1431 The Soldier's Farewell, The Parent's Gift
Print: Baxter CL 200 - shows a soldier's father presenting a Bible to his son, who is a departing Guardsman off to the Crimean War. Signed on the left, under the broom, "Published Sept. 24th, 1855, by G. Baxter, Proprietor and Patentee, London". The Crimean War ran from October 1853 to February 1856 so this print would have been published at the height of the conflict and would have been highly topical at that time
The print was produced from a plate and eight blocks, and was originally sold at 1s. 6d
