Print: Baxter -CL 219 - It is a full-length portrait of Jenny Lind, the famous singer known as the Swedish Nightingale shown in character as, La fille du régiment (The Daughter of the Regiment) from an Opera by Gaetano Donizetti first performed in 1840.
 
The print was most probably first published in 1852 shortly after Lind’s retirement to America, which would possibly explain the rare unsigned versions. Lind later came back to English concert halls in 1855 hence the ‘republishing’ of this signed version in 1856
 
Signed on the right-hand corner, in the ground, "Published July 19th 1856, by G.  Baxter, Proprietor & Patentee, London”
 
It was produced from at least nine wood blocks, and originally sold at 1s. 6d.
