Print: Baxter CL 366 - Used an illustration to Suttaby's Marshall's Ladies' Elegant Pocket Souvenir, 1849 as well as being issued separately by Baxter. It is usually called "The small 'Summer,'" to differentiate this between Baxter’s large print “Summer after W E Johns”.
When published in the pocket book, as in this example, under the print is engraved the title, on the left is "Baxter's Patent Oil Printing, 11, Northampton Square," and on the right is "From a Painting by J. Noble." Produced from a steel plate and twelve blocks. It was originally sold at 6d.
Date: 1849
Size (cm ht x w): 5.9 x 7.4 (print)
State: Pocket Book Lettering – Over mounted in cream
Condition: Although the reds appear pale the other colours are still very good, perhaps the red colour block was omitted when printed. An appealing print and one of my favourites, minor surface damage to the page edges all away from the actual print priced accordingly.
