1421 River Teify, Cardiganshire AND Lake Como

Print: Baxter CL 313 AND CL 324 – An unusual conjoined pair as they appeared from the printing plate and meant to be cut to form two images.

River Teify, Cardiganshire. The River Teifi,, or Tiefy or Teivi, starts near the Abbey of Strata Florida, a few miles to the southward of the Severn and Wye rivers in South Wales.

It was used as an illustration to Le Souvenir, 1851, and Suttaby's Marshall's Ladies' Daily Remembrancer, 1851 and issued separately by Baxter

Lake Como Is the third largest lake in Italy and was a popular ‘tourist’ destination of the time. It was used as an illustration in Suttaby's Poole's London Annual Repository, 1851 and Le Souvenir, 1851. Both were produced from eleven blocks and each, individually, sold at 6d.

Date: 1850

Size (cm ht x w): 6.6 x 20.8 (strip)

State: Unmounted, paper residue on reverse

Condition: Very good colours, a crease down the centre of the two prints, this seems contemporary as the crease is under the paper residue on the reverse which itself must be many years old. A repaired tear and also light creasing to the left hand side. As such I have priced this as a single print so the other has no cost to you but would be a shame to separate
