Print: Baxter - CL 340. Used on the covers of music "Jullien's Album for 1856," and "Vespers" by Lindahl as well as being issued by Baxter on his stamped Mount as in this example. It is signed on the left, low down, "Published Octr. 1st, 1855, by G. Baxter, Proprietor & Patentee, London,"
It is taken from a Painting by Lee and represents a Flemish girl, Bible and beads in hand, emerging from the church door.
The print was produced from an engraved steel plate and ten zinc blocks, and was originally sold at 1s. 6d.
Date: 1855
Approx. size (cm ht x w): 14 x 10.2 (print) 32.5 x 26.2 (frame)
State: On Stamped Mount as issued, over mounted in blue and gilt and then cream. My favourite style of mounting and very popular in the 1920’s. In modern ‘aged’ gilt frame. Please note there is some glare from the glass in the images.
