1396 Belle of the Village
Print: Baxter CL 348 - This print can be found on music sheets "Belle of the Village Valse" and "Jullien's Album for 1855" but also issued separately by Baxter. Signed low down "Published Octr. 7. 1854, by G. Baxter, Proprietor & Patentee, London," It was taken from a painting by Louis.
The print was produced from eleven zinc blocks, and was originally sold at 3s.
For some reason this subject is quite hard to find in unfaded condition.
“T H Gladwell London” is embossed on the contemporary card mount being a retailers stamp. Gladwell operated from Gracechurch Street from about 1840 onwards
Size (cm ht x w): 20.7 x 16.2
State: Stuck on a contemporary, possibly the original, card mount
Condition: Excellent colours, minor fox spots to the sky. Some heavier foxing spots to the mount which I could easily remove by trimming but I feel the retailers stamp is too interesting to cut off, please see images
