Print: Le Blond Baxter LB 170 – Originally issued by Baxter in 1850 as CL 328 / 329 where it was used extensively on music sheets.
Baxter stated that this print is ‘after drawings by Prout’ but Baxter must have used a bit of poetic licence here as he appears to have added a Gondola which we do not think was in Prout’s original designs. He obviously did this without good research (google wasn’t available then) as we are faithfully informed Gondolas can only be seen in Venice.
The lack of Baxter signature is enough to confirm this is a Le Blond reprint just after Baxter’s death
