Print: Le Blond LB 182 – Originally published by Baxter as CL 226 in 1853. Baxter produced two versions and this version is usually called Duke of Wellington with arm to differentiate between Baxter’s more commonly seen slightly smaller version that doesn’t show an arm. Le Blond didn’t print Baxter’s smaller version.
You can tell the difference between the Baxter and Le Blond printings as in the Le Blond the sash is white whilst in Baxter it is blue
Without being an exact copy, it is an adaptation from Sir Thomas Lawrence's portrait.
Date: Circa 1868
Size (cm ht x w): 10.7 x 7.3 (print) 23 x 18.7 (frame)
State: Over mounted in cream in old ormolu frame
Condition: The print is very good, the frame has multiple areas of damage that have all had gilding applied but I think this adds to the authenticity of the item, please see images for more details.
If you do not require the frame I am happy to remove the print to save on postage. On the bottom of the print is a fake rubber stamp stating Published by George Baxter… most probably applied in the 1920’s to pass this off as a genuine Baxter print
