Print: Baxter CL 277 The Landing of Her Majesty and H.R.H. Prince Albert in Ireland although on the embossed mount the title is shortened to The Queen landing in Ireland’.
It is a companion print to No. 278, “Her Majesty, H.R.H. Prince Albert, and family leaving Kingston Harbour, Ireland”.
It was used extensively on music "Hibernian Quadrille" and "Queenstown Galop" and depicts an important and very well documented event, The Queen’s first visit to Ireland.
They initially landed at "Cove of Cork"; which was re-named Queenstown in her honour. It is now known as Cobh.
The print illustrates the Royal visit, and included in the party, as well as Queen Victoria, there were Prince Albert, the Prince of Wales (afterwards King Edward VII.), the then Princess Royal (afterwards Empress Frederick), Prince Alfred, and Princess Alice, all are shown in print 278. Baxter drew this ‘on the spot’ having attended the event.
On the steel plate is "Designed, Engraved, Printed and Published by G. Baxter, Patentee, 11, Northampton Square, 1850." The print was produced from ten blocks and was originally sold at 2s.
Signed in the right-hand bottom corner, "Baxter's Patent Oil Printing," Very hard to find on Baxter’s original stamped mount
