Print: Baxter - CL 260 - One of Baxter ‘three ladies’ being this print, Lover’s Letterbox and The Day Before Marriage.
It is signed between the dress and the door on the left, but the dark background makes it particularly difficult to read and states "Published May 19th, 1855, by G. Baxter, Proprietor & Patentee, London." Not a rare print but extremely hard to copies in good condition, most are quite faded usually noticeably by lack of the reds in the dress.
It is taken from a painting by Brooks, and was produced from a plate and nine zinc blocks, and was originally sold at 10s. 6d.
Size (cm ht x w): 37.4 x 26.4 (image)
State: On old card
Condition: Excellent colours very light spotting to cloak and face, please see images. With The Bridesmaid the pattern in the dress is very often faded and it is only when you see one of these hard to find copies with such excellent colours you realise the dress has a deep red pattern
