Print: Baxter - CL 134 - Queen's Floral Needle Box Set. This is a sheet of 10 small prints that were meant to be cut singular and affixed to the lids of small boxes containing sewing needles. Although all Baxter’s needle box prints proved popular as decorative items and can be regularly found, virtually always cut, in scrapbooks this set, I find, is seen virtually exclusively in the scrapbooks, I don’t think I have even seen an example on the needle box they were ‘intended’ for. Perhaps it was their highly decorative nature that made them so popular for the Victorian pastime of parlour scrapbooks
Each small print is signed "G. Baxter, Patentee, 11, Northampton Square,"
On the same steel plate as a larger and three medium size floral prints in the same ‘set’ that were meant to go on to the lids of larger boxes containing 3 or 10 of the smaller boxes. Examples of these are available as I write, please enquire. Printed from a steel plate and nine colour blocks
